Overview
Niche Intel ("the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension that provides music niche and keyword research. This privacy policy explains how the Extension handles user data.
Data Collection
Niche Intel does NOT collect, store, or transmit any personal data:
- No personal information is collected
- No browsing history or activity is tracked
- No analytics or telemetry data is sent
- No cookies are set
- No account or login is required
Local Storage
The Extension uses chrome.storage.local solely to cache search results for up to 24 hours to improve performance and reduce redundant API calls. This cache is:
- Stored entirely on your device
- Never transmitted to any server
- Contains only search result data
- Automatically expires after 24 hours
- Completely removed when the extension is uninstalled
Third-Party Services
The Extension makes direct requests from your browser to the following public APIs and services:
- YouTube (video search results)
- iTunes Search API (music catalog data)
- Spotify (track and artist information)
- Google Trends (search interest data)
- LRCLIB (lyrics data)
- MusicBrainz (music metadata)
- Google Autocomplete (search suggestions)
- DuckDuckGo (web search results)
- Invidious instances (alternative YouTube data)
All requests are made directly from your browser — there is no intermediary server. Each third-party service has its own privacy policy governing how they handle requests.
Permissions
- storage — Used for the 24-hour local result cache
- host_permissions — Required to make direct API requests to the data sources listed above without routing through a backend server
Data Sharing
None. No data is shared with any third party. No data leaves your device. Everything stays local to your browser.
